Linux Distribution: Lightweight Portable Security

Blog:
This distribution was created by the Software Protection Initiative. The idea behind it is that government workers can use a CDROM or USB stick to boot into a tamper proof, pristine desktop when using insecure computers. The environment that it offers should be largely resistant to Internet-borne security threats such as viruses and spyware, particularly when launched from read-only media. LPS supports WiFi interfaces but doesn't current have support for printers or sound hardware. You just just need a basic web browser and a remote desktop client on a disc or to hand out to someone who might get lost with a more complex live CD.

Jolicloud's Jolibook Netbook Hitting Stores

Blog:
Here, ye, here ye! I've found a notebook that's just my size, coming to a UK near you!! Ha,ha,ha!! Just kidding!! - At least for me on-the-go,(which I always happen to be). I think this notebook could really sell-coming form when Asus first debuted their EeePC, the Linux world rejoiced at the possibility of widespread consumer adoption of Linux. I don't know much about cloud computing, but it seems to have a strange way of showing up to help make your EZ computing acessable. Myself, as a future customer, like to have maybe acess to facebook to catch with family, or diffitely Google Apps, but I would hope it would come with a lot more GBs HD and more memory than this, though! But never the less, if I had one, I would give it a test spin for you and them, Ha,- for a price ofcourse! Nothing free accespt my time!! Love it, mean it!! Good job!

The Move To Linux - Encrypted Disk Issues

Blog:
So many laptop thefts out there and getting your personal information; what can you do to prevent this? Trust Platform Module ship allows you to improve encryption, ensure that even if your disk is removed from your laptop, it is still secure and greatly enhances security. TPM chip is supposed to do prevent yourself from reading a disk not attached to the motherboard. You should not only not have been able to read it once mounted in the cage, you should not have been able to copy it at all. You can decide to go with dd because it does a bit for bit copy, rather than needing access to the file system. This is important because the disk, for the most part, is encrypted. You can use dd to clone an encrypted disk. LinuxJournal.com shows you step by step how to do this.

Lightweight Portable Security

Blog:
The US Dept of Defense is using a Live CD distro to create a secure end node to access the web or act as a remote desktop host. Because it boots from a CD (or USB drive), the system is bug free and tamper proof.

The openSUSE and Ubuntu Rollercoasters

Blog:
It seems that the openSUSE and Ubuntu users were put in a state of uproar due to certain statements that were issued over the Web. It was stated that Novell was sold to Microsoft alarming many Linux users, when in fact in a later update states that a Microsoft holding company purchased some of Novell's patents, and later Novell confirmed that they were not sold to Microsoft. With Ubuntu it was said that founder mark Shuttlewort had stated that they were moving from a six-month release cycle to daily update, however, the Director of Ubuntu Engineering issued a retraction that the words of Shuttleworth had been reworded and that Ubuntu would remain a stable six-month release cycle and not be changing to a rolling release. He alo stated that what Shutterworth was actually doing was giving the definition of rolling release.
